The Character of Scarlet in Gone With the Wind Essay -- Gone With the
The Character of Scarlet in Gone With the Windà à à "My Dear, I don't give a damn," (718) Rhett Butler says this infamous quote to Scarlet O'Hara at the end of Gone With the Wind (1934), when the woman has finally poured her soul to him. The novel Gone with the Wind (1934) by Margaret Mitchell is a classic about the hard times suffered during and after the Civil War. Scarlet lives in the Confederacy and everyone there is for fighting for his or her noble Cause. The young southern belle Scarlet O'Hara is forced to do things she never thought a girl of her class and nature would have to do. All throughout the novel, she is faced with serious problems. Scarlet plainly states, I'll not think of that today, I'll think of it tomorrow, for tomorrow is another day, which of course she never does. It is this thought however, that makes her character stay strong, although sometimes living in a daydream. Without telling herself this, Scarlet would have broken down in the very beginning after the war had started. Scarlet lives for the future and not the past. It's this about her that makes her character admirable and noble At first the reader would think Scarlet's character is snobbish and helpless. Through her determination, she forces others to change their opinion of her. In the beginning, she is a young, beautiful sixteen -year old, with a seventeen-inch waist, the smallest in the county. At parties, she never has less than a dozen young men surrounding her, all of whom she never lets know whom she truly loves. The other girls find Scarlet heartless, the way she leads all those boys on, but Scarlet pays no mind to them. She knows they are just bitter with jealousy. She does truly love Ashley Wilkes, but he is to announce his enga... ...d a cause of her own. While many characters in the book fought and died for the great Cause, she cared more about her own. Scarlet had to care for Tara and her family. Although many see her as repulsive, by looking at her acts, she made herself strong with words. The once young and carefree girl was forced to marry for money, not for love, twice. When Scarlet finally let her only true love in life, Rhett Butler, know how she felt about him, she realizes all too late how horrid she's acted, he finally puts Scarlet in her place by stating "My dear, I don't give a damn." At these words, Scarlet still does not break down. After all she has been through she knows what to do. She tells her self that tomorrow is another day, and tomorrow she will get Rhett back. à Works Cited Mitchell, Margaret. Gone With the Wind. NewYork: The Macmillan Company,1994 à Ã

British North American colonies prior to 1700 Essay
The New World was first established because a group of people in England did not agree with the religious and political ways of life advocated. Different religious groups left England to pursue more religious freedom in America. As they moved to the New World, the three different regions of the North American colonies greatly impacted not only their lifestyles but also the extent of religious freedom allowed prior to 1700. The first arrivers in the northern colonies were Puritans who came to America because they didnââ¬â¢t agree with the Anglican Church. These early colonist yearned for a place where they could indulge in religious freedom as opposed to the extreme contrast to the strict religious persecutions they experienced in England. But the Puritans had very strict rules regarding membership into the Protestant Church and religion was viewed very strictly. The Puritans believed that they were ââ¬Å"a city upon a hillâ⬠and were to be a model of a holy society for humankind. Thus they were very rigid in thought and were also very prejudiced against other religions. This group who had come seeking religious freedom soon became the most religiously intolerant group in the Americas. Quakers, who denied the authority of the Puritan clergy, were persecuted with fines and banishment. Sometimes they were even hanged. Dissenters like Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams were banished and Rhode Island was established by Williams as the first colony to have complete freedom of religion. In his ââ¬Å"sewerâ⬠colony, Jew, Catholics, and Quakers were all sheltered and treated equally. The Middle Colonies was an extremely religiously mixed region because of the amount of diverse people who settled there. The first to settle the region were the Dutch, in New Netherlands which would later become New York after the English took control. The Dutch practiced the Dutch Reform Church which was basically a branch of Lutheran. South of the Dutch were the Swedes practicing their own branch of Lutheran known as the Swedish Reform Church. They were later defeated and absorbed by the New Netherland colonists. But the English regarded the Dutch as the Dutch regarded the Swedes; as intruders and in 1664, Charles II granted his brother, the Duke of York, a squadron that defeated the Dutch. Although the English were now in control of the region and brought with them the Anglican Church, they did not seekà to enforce it because the Dutch made up almost half of the population. Then the establishment of Pennsylvania allowed German, French, Dutch, and English colonists entry into the New World under William Pennââ¬â¢s broad view of religious tolerance. With so many ethnically, racially, and religiously diverse groups in the region, there can be nothing but immense religious toleration. The Southern Colonies, were the earliest colonies to be settled, but didnââ¬â¢t strive for the religious haven the New England Colonies desired. The only settlers in the South were from the Church of England so that was the predominant faith. But because the southââ¬â¢s economy was based on agriculture and farming on large plantations and most things were business-oriented, there were few towns which meant few churches. Poor white farmers with small land areas did not have the money or resources to build churches and the large plantation owners did not have churches on their plantations so they basically did whatever they wanted. Religious tolerance was not high but the dominant religion itself was not rigidly enforced. In the midst of such religious indifference, the evangelist religions were born. Although immigrants to the New World all came with intentions of pursuing religious freedom never experienced in their native countries, the regional differences and religious views soon spread them far apart from each other. The New Englanders were mostly Puritans who believed in tight communities and so they remained as they were, fervent worshippers of God and intolerant of other religions. The Middle Colonies, with its wide range of races and the fact that it was established for business and trade ventures, dealt with immense religious diversity and thus immense religious tolerance. The South, preoccupied with the large-scale planting of tobacco had no time to enforce the Anglican Church. Such diverse thoughts of religious tolerance in the three regions that made up America before 1700 greatly impacts the America that we know today.

In front of him stands a Tyrannosaurus rex. The five-year old boy was Stephen Jay Gould. But the great animal stood immobile in all its bony grandeur, and as we left, I announced that I would be a paleontologist when I grew up,â⬠(qtd. in ââ¬Å"World Biographyâ⬠). Credentials And Scope Professional Sector â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Credentials And Scope Professional Sector? Answer: Introduction In the recent world, with globalization and new job avenues opening in front of us, constant upgrading and improvisations are becoming absolutely necessary for employees, to increase our efficiency, credentials and scope in the professional sector, thereby increasing our scope to prosper in our work life. As the job world is rapidly moving to the path of specialization and special skill development, new job types are emerging in different industries as well as the same industry. Therefore, knowledge acquisitions about the new job roles, the dynamics and challenges in carrying out the job responsibilities efficiently and developing personal skills for doing the same is management more and more important with each passing day. In this essay, I try to reflect on the my job roles, the attributes I have relevant to the job I am currently doing, my achievements in the professional domain and the skills I need to need to focus on to prosper in my work life (Marescaux, De Winne and Sels 2012) . I have been working in a multi-national company, venturing mainly in food and beverage industry, in the capacity of a human resource manager, for the last three years. My broad job role is to handle the human resource department of the companys branch in Sydney, Australia. After completing my masters in English from a reputed university in Britain, from where I belong, I pursued a diploma in Human resource management from the same university, before getting placed in this company. My attributes Communication and interacting with ease with people belonging from different age group, profession and lingual background has been one of my strongest fortes. Being multi-lingual, I can communicate verbally in English, Spanish and French, which has helped me considerably to play the role of a HR Manager in the multi-national company. Leadership being one of the primary requirements of my job has not been a problem for me, as I have always loved to work in a cooperative and team environment. My job requires problem-solving capabilities for which presence of mind is required as many problems come up all of a sudden and needs to be addressed with prudency. I have been handling the problems cropping up in this sector for the last three years and have taken decisions on part of the company, regarding hiring and firing employees, designing employee evaluation framework and conducting successful employee training programs. Most of these were of substantial success and brought short term as well as long-term benefits for the company (Kinicki and Kreitner 2012). However, with advent of time and competition entering in every aspect of professional life, I feel the need to augment my skills and upgrade myself so as to be more efficient in my workplace and increase my scopes in future. a) Ability to resolve conflicts- In the recent times, the company I work for has been experiencing several disturbances, which are mainly arising due to the conflict of interests between the employers and the employee. The main issue contributing to this conflict is the disparity in wages of the employees in this company and their counterparts in other similar enterprises. Being a human resource manager, I need to act as a bridge between both the conflicting parties. For this purpose, I need to improve my negotiation and conflict resolving capabilities to resolve the disturbance in my enterprise (Chartered Accountants 2016). b) Complex corporate policy planning ability- Though policy planning, in the broad definition of the term, does not fall under my job roles, however, with advent of a more complex business structure, the job roles are changing and becoming more cognitive in nature. I as a human resource management, nowadays, need to keep this in account and need to be more adept in designing policies related to the welfare of the company as well as the participants in the enterprise. These policies being complex in nature, sufficient training and knowledge is required for which I need to update myself (Chartered Accountants 2016). c) Time management- The most important aspect of my job is that I need to carry out many tasks of different types and genres within small span of time. Therefore, time management is one of the most necessary skills, which I need to acquire as without proper time management, I may fail to deliver some of my tasks and therefore, lose credibility in the eyes of my employers (Goetsch and Davis 2014). Conclusion As discussed above continuous development of skills and improvising personal capabilities are required in order to stay in the labor force as an efficient employee.
